Honda Develops Solar Power Compatible Electric Vehicle Charger
Honda has changed the way we think about electric and Hybrid vehicles by releasing the first consumer Hybrid vehicle, the Insight, back in 1999. Now they’re about to change the way we think about electric vehicle charging by working on a normal speed electric vehicle charger that can gather its energy from the sun. This has the potential to revolutionize the way we think about electric vehicles and the ease with which we can recharge them, either at home or when we are out and about.
While most manufacturers are working to create more efficient electric vehicles, Honda is taking this practice one step further. Honda is trying to reinvent the way these vehicles can get the energy they need and make it more environmentally conscious. The charger is known as the “HEH55” and it is capable of being installed on a wall, which does away with the need for any groundwork and minimizes the installation time. It can also be installed quickly in parking lots and garages and has the ability to support network based billing systems and smart card authentication for people needing a charge while they’re on the go. The charger’s ability to utilize solar energy would allow it to not only use less energy from the grid to charge your vehicle, but also provide charging in the event of a power outage.
